Entry for September 26, 2008 - Wii and Cerebral Palsy

Physical Therapy journal reports on a case study regarding the use of Wii by an adolescent with cerebral palsy,  classified as GMFSM III.  Following 11 training sessions using the Wii for 60-90 minutes (in addition to OT and PT sessions), the adolescent showed improvements in visual processing, postural control and functional mobility.

Love to hear from any therapists who use Wii in the school setting?  Does it work?

I wanted to add something I just saw while surfing the web.  I was just reading an article written by a pediatric OT stating that many changes in today's children could possibly be attributed to way too much television and video games.  Check out this video from her website - http://www.bengedlow.com/flowplayer/html/reality-check.html

My friend has a teenage child who receives out-pt. therapies for PDD. She states she HATES it when the therapists play games (i.e. UNO in speech therapy, "video games" in OT, etc.). No matter what the rationale, she hates wasting $ on what she calls "playtime" for Ben and his therapist.
