Community Helpers Preschool Unit of Study by Hands First is a supplementary unit of study for teachers, parents and therapists that allows one to teach preschoolers fine motor, gross motor and language skills in a fun yet educational format. In this unit of study, children get the opportunity to recreate their own downtown and the shops in their town or neighborhood. Through pretend play, they can explore the duties of firefighters or women at the firehouse, all the while developing their skills. They even learn through play how to put on a bandage at the doctor’s office!
Written by developmental specialists, Laurie Donovan, MA, OT, Alison Hales, OTD and Tama Hampton, MA, CCC- SLP, this Hands First for Learning Unit of Study contains play activities that have been professionally developed and tested to help children learn and succeed while having fun!
The Community Helpers Preschool Unit includes:
- lesson plans
- teacher checkpoints to assess student learning
- opportunities for further learning at home such as letters to go home to parents describing the activity that the children participated in and carry over suggestions to go along with the theme!
