Homemade Peg Board Activity Tube
I happen to love DIY activities for kids especially ones that use recycled materials. Not sure why, but it makes me happy. This homemade peg board activity encourages children to practice their fine motor coordination skills.
How to Make the Peg Board Activity Tube
You will the following materials to make the peg board activity tube:
- recycled paper towel roll
- markers
- mini pegs, colored golf tees or lite brite pegs
Draw colored dots around the paper towel tube evenly spaced apart. You can just guess – it doesn’t have to be perfect. Make sure your colored dots are large enough to poke a hole through the middle and still see the color.
Using the pegs (or an adult can use a screwdriver) poke holes into the middle of the colored dots so the pegs can fit.
How to Complete the Activity
Put the pegs into a small container. Demonstrate for the child and put one colored peg into one of the holes, matching up the colors. The object is to fill up all of the holes with the matching colored pegs.
Play a Game with The Peg Board Activity Tube
If you are using this activity with older children you can turn it into a game. The object of the game is to be the person who put the last peg in the tube.
Place the pegs in the container. Player one chooses 1 or 2 pegs to put into the tube. Player two chooses 1 or 2 pegs to put into the tube. Keep playing until the player puts the last peg in the tube. That person is the winner!
Take out all the pegs and play again.
