WHO IS THIS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CHECKLIST FOR?
This checklist can be used by therapists, teachers, other school staff, and parents. Although this checklist was initially created for individuals with autism, after using the tool, Ms. Schriber Orloff, quickly came to realize that most of the skills are universal. Therefore, this can be used with both typical and atypical populations that are in middle school and older.
WHEN TO USE THIS CHECKLIST
This tool can be used:
- for setting therapy goals.
- to identify areas that need to be addressed in IEP documents.
- to initiate conversations about specific areas of concern.
- across the lifespan, thinking of adult populations that might be experiencing challenges at home, work and community.
- for obtaining impressions from other professionals and family members to learn how they see the child from their perspective.
- to track progress if you score the checklist (see below).
You and the child can fill it out together as a great place to start when the child has a difficult time figuring out certain situations and how to react to them.
There are blank lines at the end of each section so that you can add issues you need to address with your child, client, or student.
CAN THIS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SKILLS CHECKLIST BE SCORED?
YES! You can use this checklist as a rubric to provide an overall score on social-emotional skills to help you track progress. As you go through the checklist you can score each skill to get a total score in each domain and an overall total score for all the skills.
The fillable PDF form will even score it for you!
