Description
Are you weary of administering a handwriting assessment that tells you that the child has legibility and speed issues, but doesn’t tell you why? The Assessment of Handwriting Function is an evidence-based criterion-referenced assessment that will change your handwriting assessments forever!
Created by an experienced OT, the 128 page PDF will be available electronically immediately following payment.
What can this Assessment of Handwriting Function offer you?
- No more administering a handwriting assessment that tells you what you already know: that the child has speed or legibility issues. This assessment evaluates all the aspects affecting legibility and speed, including, amongst others, spacing, sizing, formations, pencil grasp, and pencil control, so you don’t have to guess what to address.
- It gives clear before and after scores so you can easily monitor the efficacy of your intervention.
- You can use whichever handwriting style is used in your district.
- You can assess children from kindergarten through middle school.
- You can say goodbye to your days of pencil grasp guesswork by using the latest, easy-to-follow, evidence-based information to classify them as developmental, efficient, or inefficient.
Say goodbye to the guesswork!
You don’t want an assessment that leaves you guessing as to what to address. If it’s spacing, you will know. If it’s pencil control, you will know. Should you change the pencil grasp? You will know. Using the Assessment of Handwriting function means you will know which areas to address.
Who developed the Assessment of Handwriting Function?
This assessment was developed by occupational therapist, Bunty McDougall, who has over 35 years of experience working with children with learning challenges. Her qualification in Ayres Sensory Integration® schooled her in specific, accurate, and expert assessment processes she applied in the development of this assessment, while her Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) training laid the foundations for understanding the motor patterns related to the handwriting process. Bunty is based in the UK, where she continues to develop resources related to handwriting and learning difficulties in children.
Reviews of the Assessment of Handwriting Function
Thank you so much for creating this assessment – it is detailed and it feels as though I have a handwriting OT mentor in my computer! The assessment layout means I can just circle a picture and add notes rather than having to write my own laborious explanation of how the child is trying to hold the pencil.
This handwriting assessment makes it possible to figure out exactly what is happening with the child’s handwriting and helps me to add where, how, and if I should work on their handwriting. Thank you so much for the truly inspiring work that you do – not only do you help kids, you help OTs to help kids. – Losanne van der Zee, occupational therapist, Tzaneen, South Africa
Bunty’s Assessment of Handwriting Function was a pleasure to work through. She has compiled an assessment based on the latest handwriting research in an easy to use format. This gives a busy practice a quick and easy additional tool to add value and depth to assessments. Thank you, Bunty. – Michelle Luyt, occupational therapist, Plettenberg Bay
Thank you very much for the development of, and your very generous sharing of your “Assessment of Handwriting Function” Tool. I found the content most valuable. It is a great refresher for those of us therapists who have been practicing and treating handwriting difficulties for a while. I particularly found the latest research you mentioned beneficial in updating my knowledge and understanding of what I see in the children in front of me in terms of pencil grip and control.
The adaptability of this assessment tool is particularly useful for a range of ages, as we require in the school setting. I found it most comprehensive and easy to understand. I look forward to using it in my practice to assess the children under my care and to more precisely and effectively measure their therapy progress in terms of function. – Theresa Munks, occupational therapist, Bedfordview.
