Spring Visual Discrimination and Visual Motor Activity
This fun and playful spring visual discrimination and visual motor activity is ready to print and play. You can download it for free at the bottom of the post.
Visual discrimination skills are the ability to determine differences and similarities between objects to help us to understand and interpret the environment around us.
Visual motor skills, otherwise known as visual motor integration is the ability to interpret visual information and respond with a motor action.
Both visual discrimination and visual motor skills are especially important when learning to read, to write, to do math, to participate in sports, to knit, to cook… the list can go on and on!
How to Complete the Spring Visual Discrimination and Visual Motor Activity
There are two variations of this free activity. For page one, print out the worksheet. Provide the child with a pencil, pen, or thin point marker. The child needs to draw on the eggs to match the pattern on the birds belly. In the example, the bird’s belly has small, diagonal, dashes therefore you would draw the same small, diagonal, dashes on the egg. This activity adds a visual motor component to the worksheet.
For page two of the spring visual discrimination activity, you can use it as a matching game. You can have the child draw a line matching the bird to the correct egg.
How to Play the Matching Game
If you only want to practice visual discrimination and fine motor skills, play it as a matching game. Print page two on cardstock paper. Cut apart the 20 small cards of birds and eggs.
Mix up the cards and place them all face down. Player one turns over two cards. If the bird’s belly pattern matches the eggs, keep the match. Go again.
If you do not find a match, turn the cards back over and player two takes a turn. The person with the most matches at the end of the game is the winner.
