HOW TO USE ROLL A CHRISTMAS TREE

Download and print the PDF. You will need a die to complete the activity.
Provide your students with a copy of the activity you choose:
- ROLL A CHRISTMAS TREE
- SPIN A CHRISTMAS TREE
- DRAW A CHRISTMAS TREE
- ROLL AND COLOR A CHRISTMAS TREE
Have students take turns rolling and completing the picture.
You must add the parts in the order that you roll.
If you roll the same number you can roll again, lose a turn, or choose to add more details to your picture.
The first player to complete the picture is the winner!

You can choose to play in a non-competitive format and have the students take turns until everyone completes their picture.

TIPS: You may need to provide a completed picture as a model for your students. Also, let everyone complete their pictures at the end whether they win the game or do not win the game.

ROLL A CHRISTMAS TREE WORKS ON VISUAL PERCEPTUAL SKILLS

Visual perceptual skills are the skills that we use to interpret the information that our eyes see. These skills allow us to make sense of the world around us and react appropriately. For example, when we see a ball coming towards us, we use our visual perceptual skills to determine how far away it is and how fast it’s moving so that we can catch it.

There are several different types of visual perceptual skills, including spatial awareness, visual discrimination, form constancy, figure ground, visual motor and more. All of these skills are important for kids to develop in order to be successful in school and in life.

Fine motor skills are the smaller movements that we make with the muscles in our hands and fingers. These skills allow us to perform tasks like writing, buttoning our clothes, or using utensils.

Just like with visual perceptual skills, there are several different types of fine motor skills, including proximal control (which is the ability to stabilize and move your whole arm), tripod grip (which is the ability to hold a pencil correctly), and eye-hand coordination (which is the ability to track an object with your eyes while also moving your hand). These skills help students succeed in the educational environment, in the community and at home.
