  3. Return to the middle spider and repeat the process for all of the spider pairs.
  4. Continue until all spiders are matched, promoting focus and coordination.

WHAT SKILLS DOES THIS ACTIVITY WORK ON?

This activity targets a variety of motor and cognitive skills that are crucial for children’s development:

  • Bilateral Coordination: Encourages the use of both hands together in a coordinated way, a skill needed for daily tasks like tying shoes or writing.
  • Crossing Midline: Helps the brain learn to coordinate both sides of the body, which is important for tasks like reading and handwriting.
  • Activating the Left and Right Side of the Brain: Stimulates both hemispheres, supporting cognitive processing and improving motor function.
  • Left and Right Directionality: Reinforces an understanding of left and right, which is critical for navigation and following multi-step instructions.
  • Visual Scanning: Encourages the child to scan the page to locate matching spiders, strengthening their ability to process visual information quickly.
  • Visual Discrimination: Teaches kids to identify subtle differences in the spiders, helping to improve their attention to detail.
