The printable includes one page with a large word search grid containing 20 mindfulness and breathing-themed words, including BREATH, CALM, INHALE, EXHALE, MINDFUL, FOCUSED, BALANCE, CENTERED, and PEACEFUL.

Three guided prompts are printed directly on the page. The PAUSE prompt asks children to notice their breathing before they begin. When to Use This Breathing Word Search Activity

This printable works well across a variety of settings:

  • Occupational therapy sessions as a calm, focused warm-up or cool-down activity
  • Classroom use as an early finisher activity, indoor recess option, or mindfulness brain break
  • Counseling sessions to help children settle into a focused, grounded state
  • Fine motor centers paired with a pencil or crayon for circling words
  • Home use as a no prep, screen-free activity for children of any age

Tips and Variations

Walk through the three prompts on the page before children begin searching. Taking a moment to pause and breathe first helps set a calm, focused tone, which can make the word search itself feel more intentional rather than rushed.

For younger children or those who are new to word searches, highlight the first letter of a few words on the grid to help them get started. Pointing out that words can run horizontally, vertically, or diagonally gives them a clear strategy to work from.

For an added challenge, have children cover the word list and see how many of the 20 words they can find from memory. Laminate the page and use a dry-erase marker so the activity can be used again and again in therapy or the classroom.
