Self talk is a mental strategy using self addressed cues (short phrases or a few words) to trigger appropriate responses by focusing attention on the skill or behavior to help improve performance. This Positive Goal Setting packet can help students (and adults) to reach their goals by using positive self talk.

How Does the Positive Goal Setting Digital Resource Work?
- Download the PDF files, make a copy of the Google Slides file and check out the 13 sticky note images.
- Decide on your goal and write or type it. You can choose from dotted line paper, single line paper (wide rule width) or Google Slides version to type on the goal worksheet.
- Choose a positive affirmation and plan out three action steps. Monitor your progress along the way to reach your goal!

- Students (and adults) can write or type their goal on the I CAN REACH MY GOAL PAGE.
- Choose one of the 12 positive affirmation pages to write or type your three action steps to reach your goal.
- The sticky note images can be pasted onto other assignments or projects you are working on to help provide positive reminders to reach your goal.
- Use all three options: 1.) goal page 2.) positive affirmation action step page and 3.) sticky notes, to help you reach your goal!
- Use student generated data collection and monitor your progress on the Mission Accomplished worksheet.
Use Instructional and Motivational Self-Talk
The wonderful benefit to the Positive Goal Setting packet is that students can use instructional and motivational self-talk at the same time! Students can use the motivational self-talk such as “I can do anything. I believe in me.” The action steps for the goal are the instructional self talk steps.
