Expressing Gratitude to Reduce Stress

Students are very stressed out these days. Academic workload can feel very overwhelming at times especially for students who struggle. It leaves them very little time to appreciate the good things they have in life.

Help students to start changing this. Encourage them to take a few minutes each day to be grateful for something or for someone by answering this gratitude prompt question – “What are three things that you are grateful for today” (download the freebie at the bottom of the post so you can print it out).

Students and anyone will soon see that by focusing on something positive they will find themselves feeling less stressed out.

Instead of worrying about all those things they didn’t get accomplished during the day, they can focus on those that did get done. If they answered some of the questions correctly then appreciate this, if they finally finished a big project, be grateful. This will help the students to focus on getting assignments or responsibilities done bit by bit.

Encourage your students to live in the moment and be mindful of their environment at school and at home. Try not to rush throughout the day and be grateful for the time that is spent with friends and family.

Dealing with high levels of stress is not healthy for students or their families. Stress can easily rub off on all the members of your family. Learn to start each day by being thankful for one small thing by completing this FREE Gratitude Handwriting Prompt at the bottom of the post. It could be as simple as being able to watch the sun rise, or grateful that you slept well. Do the same before going to bed at night. Think about what you were grateful for that day.

When students (and family members) express gratitude consistently you will find that your mood changes. It will be easier to think positive thoughts more often than one thinks about negative things.
