The month of May is busy and filled with sun, fun, and holidays! Each day has a designated holiday and the month has some pretty recognizable dates too, which means there are plenty of ideas you can write about. Feel free to come up with your own ideas or use the following prompts we came up with for each holiday this month. Just to name a few, May is recognized as National Salad Month, National Hamburger Month, and National Pet Month. These are just three of the fun and crazy holidays May is unique for. A bullet journal can be customized to fit any need. Writing prompts are simply ideas or topics to write about. These can be used in a number of ways, from story starters to daily journaling. You can add drawings by creating your own journal cover as well.

How to Use These May Journal Prompts?

May Journal Prompts – May 1 – May 15

Check out all of these different writing prompts for the first half of the month:

May 1: National Chocolate Parfait Day – The first day of May is one of the busiest days of the year when it comes to holidays, but I had no problem choosing my favorite holiday (Hint: It has something to do with my favorite food.) May 1st is National Chocolate Parfait Day! Today I want you to write your best recipe for a chocolate parfait. What do you think tastes best?

May 2: National Brothers and Sisters Day – Do you have any brothers or sisters? What are your favorite (and least favorite) characteristics of each of your siblings?

May 3: National Two Different Colored Shoes Day – I dare you to wear two different colored shoes out in public and see if anyone notices. How long did it take them to notice? Did they say anything to you? Write about it! If you’re not comfortable going out in public like this, try wearing two different colored socks around your house.

May 4: National Star Wars Day – May the Fourth be with you! Write about Stars Wars or any movie series. Would you change anything about them?

May 5: World Password Day – Write all your passwords down in your journal or another safe place. You will thank me for this one later.

May 6: International No Diet Day – That’s right, today is your cheat day! Indulge in your favorite treats and write about how it made you feel.

May 7: National Tourism Day – Where was your favorite place you ever visited? Describe it. Would you go back again?

May 8: Mother’s Day – Write something for your mom. It can be a poem, a card, or even a song. Have fun with it!

May 9: National Lost Sock Memorial Day – This one makes me giggle a little, so what better way to honor the holiday than with a silly story. Write a funny story about a sock that goes missing. Make sure to be as creative and imaginative as you can!

May 10: National Clean Your Room Day – Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you clean your room, but I do want you to think about at least one thing you would change about the current room you are in. What would you like to see different? Come up with a plan to make it possible and then do your best, to make it happen. No pressure, though!

May 11: National Technology Day – Do you think technology is more of a negative or a positive? Why?

May 12: National Limerick Day – Try writing a limerick. If not, any poem will do!

May 13: National Apple Pie Day – Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this holiday should be in fall. Do you agree with me? Why or why not?

May 14: National Dog Mom’s Day – Are you a dog mom or a dog dad? Write about your little puppers and everything they do to make you a proud parent.

May 15: International Family Day – Plan an activity or an outing with your family and write about how it went. Would you do it again?

May 18: National No Dirty Dishes Day – What would you do if you never had to do dishes again?

May 19: National Devil’s Food Cake Day – What’s your favorite kind of cake? What does it taste like? Be as descriptive as possible.

May 20: National Be a Millionaire Day – What would you do if you were a millionaire?

May 21: Eat More Fruits and Vegetables Day – What are some of your favorite fruits and vegetables? Do you grow your own?

May 22: Buy a Musical Instrument Day – You don’t actually have to go out and buy an instrument but if you could, which instrument would you choose? Why do you want to learn that instrument?

May 23: World Turtle Day – What’s your favorite marine animal? Have you ever seen it in an aquarium or in the ocean?

May 24: National Scavenger Hunt Day – Write clues you could use for a scavenger hunt around your house.

May 25: National Sing Out Day – Try writing a song and if you can, sing it!

May 26: National Sorry Day – We all make mistakes and that’s okay, but sometimes we aren’t great about taking ownership of our mistakes. Write an apology letter to someone who deserves it.

May 27: National Road Trip Day – Where’s the best place you can remember taking a road trip to? How long of a drive was it? Did you stop anywhere along the way? If you have never taken a road trip, what places would you put on a bucket list to visit?

May 28: National Hamburger Day – If you could add any hamburger to a menu what would you create?

May 29: Learn About Composting Day – Research composting and write about what you learned.

May 30: National Creativity Day – Write a creative story about anything, maybe magical creatures or create comic strips.

May 31: National Smile Day – Do something to make someone smile today. What did you do? And, how did they react?
