What’s Included in This Free Yoga Nighttime Game Board
The PDF includes three printable pages. The first is a colorful game board titled “Yoga Through the Year,” featuring a path of spaces bordered by a sleepy teddy bear character demonstrating a variety of calm, grounding yoga poses. Players move from Start to End, pausing at each space to hold the pose shown.
The second page is a set of nine illustrated yoga pose cards, each featuring the bear character and labeled with the pose name. Poses include Warrior III, Warrior I, Side Bend, Standing Forward Bend, Easy Pose, Tree Pose, Standing Figure 4, Extended Puppy, and Upward Salute, all postures that encourage slow, controlled movement and body focus.
The third page contains the game board accessories: two space spinners (one with eight sections, one with four) and a set of five colorful tokens so multiple players can participate together.
Skills This Activity Supports
This calm-down yoga game board supports a range of body-based and self-regulation skills:
- Gross motor skills
- Balance and coordination
- Core strength
- Motor planning
- Body awareness
- Self-regulation
Slow, intentional movement through yoga poses helps children shift their nervous systems from an alert, active state to a calmer, more regulated one. These are exactly the kinds of skills that support easier transitions to bedtime, quieter behavior after school, and better focus and emotional control throughout the day.
How to Use This
This printable works well across a variety of calming and therapeutic settings:
- Occupational therapy or physical therapy sessions to address self-regulation, balance, and body awareness goals
- Evening routines at home as a calm-down activity before bed
- After-school wind-down time for children who need help transitioning from an active to a restful state
- Small group therapy to target turn-taking, following directions, and breath-focused movement together
- Calm-down corners or sensory spaces in classrooms
Tips and Variations
Print and laminate all three pages so the game board, pose cards, and spinners hold up through repeated use. A pencil and paper clip work perfectly as a simple spinner with the printed spinner pages. Encourage children to take a slow breath in and out before attempting each pose, helping to deepen the calming effect of the activity.
For younger children or those new to yoga, set out the pose cards face-up as a visual reference before starting the game. Walking through one or two poses together before play begins helps children feel successful and keeps the pace gentle and unhurried.
For an added calming challenge, invite children to hold each pose for a slow count of five before spinning again. You can also dim the lights slightly and play soft background music during the game to reinforce the nighttime, wind-down atmosphere.
