Details:
Teach your students that staying calm, safe and present in the moment can help them regulate their emotions and stay grounded when they are feeling anxious, angry, upset, tired, etc. These 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Grounding Techniques can guide the children to reflect on their five senses and their preferences. This will help them to complete the audio meditation.
Pages 3-5, have the children reflect through writing or drawing about the five senses and their favorite things or people to see, touch, hear, smell, and taste.
When those exercises are completed the children are ready to listen to the audio meditation. Children can listen and use the coloring page or just listen and reflect.
Once the students understand the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Grounding Technique, they can use the final three worksheet exercises as tools during moments for when they are not able to regulate their emotions. Use those exercises after children fully understand the strategy. Hang the poster reminder on the wall and use the smaller reminders at the student’s desk or in their pocket.
This strategy is meant to be a tool or resource for children to use but be mindful that every child is an individual.
