How to Complete the FREE Tear and Paste Worksheet for the Letter Aa

Here are the directions for how to play:

  1. Print a page for each player. Trace the letter Aa in each of the boxes. If you are only working on letter recognition the students can color in the boxes or trace some of the letters with their finger instead of a pencil.
  2. Flip a coin. If it lands on heads, use your fingers to rip off 2 letter Aa boxes along the dark lines. If the coin lands on tails, rip off 1 letter Aa box.
  3. Glue all of the small ripped letter Aa boxes on the big letter A next to the ant. The first player to glue on all 20 letter Aa boxes is the winner!

Benefits of Paper Tearing Activities

Paper tearing activities might seem simple but there are actually packed with developmental benefits! Creating crafts or projects using tear and paste worksheets help to encourage children to practice the following skills:

  • grading motor movements
  • bilateral coordination
  • shoulder stability
  • finger strengthening

All of this practice just by tearing paper!

Ideas to Make this Activity Easier

If this tear and paste worksheet is too difficult for your students try making these changes:

  • instead of using a pencil to trace the letter Aa in the small boxes, just ask the children to trace the letter with their fingers.
  • try air writing the capital letter A and lowercase letter a by drawing the letter in the air instead of writing it on the paper.
  • pre-cut the large box of the 20 letters – the smaller paper will be easier for the child to handle
  • print it on bright colored paper if you are short on time and the student can just tear and paste the letters on the big letter A.

Ideas to Make this Activity Harder

If you want to strengthen the muscles of the hands and fingers even more, print this tear and paste worksheet on heavy, card-stock paper. The heavier paper will provide more resistance to little fingers!
